MU Online Season 3 – Summoner, Master Level & Elbeland

Season 3 "Old Promise" (December 2007) and its Episode 2 follow-up (February 2008) form the most beloved version in MU's history — the classic six-class era that half the private-server scene still runs. It delivered three landmarks at once: the Summoner, the original Master Level skill trees, and the new territories Elbeland and Swamp of Peace. This guide rebuilds the whole season from the original patch notes.

Looking for a Season 3 server?

Season 3 servers appeal to players who want MU before the later power creep — the Summoner and the original Master Level system, without mastery gear or 4th and 5th class changes.

Why People Still Play Season 3

ReasonDetail
The original Master LevelSeason 3 introduced master levels and the first master skill tree, before the Season 6 renewal reworked it.
Simple progressionNo mastery ladder, no artifacts, no ability cards. Gear tops out at ancient sets, so the gap between a new player and a veteran stays small.
The SummonerSeason 3 added the Summoner and her home town Elbeland — the last class added before the roster started expanding every season.
Low-rate friendlyBecause the level ceiling and item pool are small, Season 3 suits slow, long-lived low-rate servers better than newer versions do.

If Season 3 feels too bare, Season 6 is the natural next step — it keeps the classic feel but adds the Rage Fighter and the reworked master tree.

The Master Level System

Season 3's answer to the level 400 wall: characters with the 3rd class quest complete stop gaining normal levels and start earning master experience from any monster level 95+ on all maps. Each master level adds HP/MP/SD and grants 1 master point for the class skill tree.

RuleOriginal Season 3 value
UnlockLevel 400 + 3rd class change
Master exp sourceMonsters level 95+ anywhere
Per level+HP/MP/SD and 1 master point
Death penalty4% master exp; zen loss 0.7–4% (inventory + warehouse) scaling with murderer status
SealsAscension/Wealth-line seals usable but have no effect on masters

The Four Trees

DefenseDefense rate (PvP), resistancesPvP defense rate +, Poison/Lightning/Ice resistance
SkillClass skill powerAttack rate +, class skill strengtheners
AttackDamage statsPvP attack rate +
Growth / UtilityQuality of lifeDurability reduction I/II, HP auto-recovery, zen gain +

Each class got its own themed names for the four trees (the Blade Knight's Protection/Boldness/Rage/Hero line and equivalents). The structural rules defined the meta: ranks 1–8 upgrade in 5 stages each, deeper ranks need the previous rank finished — and the rank 9 finisher only activates after maxing rank 8 skills in two or more trees, forcing hybrid builds. The original four-tree window: Episode 2 expanded the trees with 7 common skills (defense +, max HP/AG, HP/mana/SD recovery on kill, exp +) and two strengtheners per class — Twisting Slash and Swell Life for Blade Knights, Soul Barrier for Soul Masters, Heal and Multi-Shot for Elves, Earthshake and Fire Burst for Dark Lords. The system's full modern evolution: Master skill tree guide.

The Summoner

MU's first new class since launch: a female mage from a reclusive race, starting in her sanctuary Elbeland. Class line: Summoner → Bloody Summoner → Dimension Master. Starting stats: STR 21, AGI 21, VIT 18, ENE 23 (70 HP / 40 MP).

PvPDebuff-then-burst; fragile against melee gap closers
SiegeAoE debuffs over enemy formations — her Castle Siege role ever since

Elbeland – the Summoner's Home

A hidden sanctuary shielded by protective wards from Kundun's watchers. New Summoners spawn here, and it connects to the old world through two portals: Devias (24, 29) among the winter snows and Atlans (247, 149) by the waterfalls. Move costs: town 2,000 / Elbeland 2 2,500 / Elbeland 3 3,000 zen, level 10+.

Swamp of Peace (Episode 2)

The level 400+ hunting ground: islands around a central safe zone with portals at the 1, 5, 7 and 11 o'clock positions (15,000 zen entry via /move). Its nine monsters became the classic master-leveling targets:

Episode 2 Interface Extras

Small changes that stuck forever: the mini party window returned to the top-right, repair hotkeys L / Shift+L arrived, chat right-click set whisper targets, and quick-slot keys stopped firing mid-chat. If you have ever repaired with L on any server since 2008 — that is Season 3 Episode 2.

Barracks of Balgass

Season 3 Episode 2 introduced the Barracks of Balgass and the Refuge of Balgass — the two instanced maps used by the 3rd class change quest. You reach the Barracks from Crywolf and the Refuge through the Gatekeeper inside it.

Full monster stats, kill counts and the route between the two maps are in the 3rd class quest guide.

FAQ

Is this accurate for Season 3 private servers?
Yes — rebuilt from the original Webzen patch notes for Season 3 (Dec 2007) and Season 3 Episode 2 (Feb 2008). Individual servers tune rates and may rename maps (Swamp of Peace appears as Swamp of Tranquility/Serenity in some translations).

Which server version should I look for?
Season 3 Episode 2 is the definitive build — it includes the Summoner's full kit, Wings of Dimension, expanded master trees and Swamp of Peace. Browse Season 3 private servers currently open.

Can the Summoner use the master tree?
Yes — from Episode 2 onward, Dimension Masters got their own tree lines alongside the classic five.

What came next?
Season 4 (August 2008): the socket system, Raklion and master tree rank 4 skills — the start of the modern gear era.
