MU Online Gens System – Duprian vs Vanert
The Gens system (Season 4) splits the server into two permanent factions — Duprian and Vanert — and turns half the world map into faction-war territory. It is MU's open-world PvP economy: kills become contribution, contribution becomes rank, rank becomes weekly loot.
The Two Families
| Duprian | Vanert | |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | The noble house (blue crest) | The rebel house (red crest) |
| Mechanics | Identical — the split exists purely to create sides | |
| Steward NPC | Gens stewards in Elbeland — join, check rank, claim rewards | |
Joining and Leaving
Any character above the entry level (~50 classic) joins free at the steward NPC. Leaving costs a penalty and a cooldown before re-joining (classic: days, plus contribution wipe) — so pick the side your guild plays on the first time. On most servers guild members can technically split across families, but guilds at war want one banner: Castle Siege alliances and gens sides usually align.
Contribution Points
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Kill opposite gens (battle maps) | +contribution, scaled by victim's rank — hunting officers pays best |
| Die to opposite gens | −contribution |
| Repeat-kill throttle | Same-victim kills decay to zero — kill trading does not work |
| Weekly ranking | Contribution totals sort the family ladder from lowest rank up to the family head positions |
Gens Battle Maps
Faction PvP is enabled on designated maps — classically the Season 4+ zones (Elbeland deeps, Swamp of Peace, Raklion, Vulcanus and others by version), where opposite-gens players are attackable without the murderer penalty. That makes gens maps the spiciest farm spots in the game: the best exp and drops sit in contested territory by design. Check the map list on your server; Vulcanus especially is traditional gens duel country.
Rewards
Weekly claims at the steward scale with rank: jewels, gens-exclusive seals and accessories, and on modern versions Ruud or contribution-shop currency. The top family ranks add prestige titles. For steady players, gens weeklies are passive income for PvP they were doing anyway — the system rewards showing up.
Gens Ranks and Weekly Rewards
Every member is ranked on contribution points. You start with 10 and earn more by killing members of the opposing Gens. Rewards are paid out weekly, and you need to place in the top 300 to receive anything at all.
| Rank | Position needed | Weekly reward |
|---|---|---|
| Grand Duke | Top 1 | Shining Jewellery Case ×30 |
| Duke | Top 5 | Shining Jewellery Case ×20 |
| Marquis | Top 10 | Elegant Jewellery Case ×20 |
| Count | Top 30 | Elegant Jewellery Case ×10 |
| Viscount | Top 50 | Steel Jewellery Case ×10 |
| Baron | Top 100 | Steel Jewellery Case ×5 |
| Knight Commander | Top 200 | Old Jewellery Case ×5 |
| Superior Knight | Top 300 | Old Jewellery Case ×3 |
The gap between tiers is steep. Grand Duke (rank 1) takes 30 Shining Jewellery Cases while Superior Knight at rank 300 takes 3 Old Jewellery Cases — so the reward curve strongly favours pushing for a high placement rather than coasting inside the cutoff.
Ranks below the reward line still matter for the title and the map access, but pay nothing at the weekly reset.

FAQ
Can I attack same-gens players?
Only via normal PK rules with full murderer penalties — the free PvP applies to the opposite family on battle maps only.
Do I lose contribution for logging off?
No — only deaths to the enemy family cost points.
Is gens required?
Some Season 4+ maps and quests require membership; otherwise optional. On gens-map-heavy servers, effectively mandatory.
Duprian or Vanert — any real difference?
None mechanically. Join where your friends are; balance bonuses for the smaller side exist only on some servers.
