MU Online Pentagrams & Errtels – The Complete Elemental System Guide
The pentagram system is MU Online’s parallel combat layer: a dedicated slot whose elemental attack and defense are calculated outside the normal damage formula. Armour, DD% and reflect do nothing against it — only elemental defense does. A pentagram carries an element (Fire, Water, Earth, Wind or Darkness), up to five sockets for errtels, and its own enhanced options; the whole Arca War guild event is fought with it. Every number below is read from a Season 21 server’s pentagram files and item list, with each pentagram and errtel rendered from the client model.

How Elements Work

| Five elements | Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Darkness. Pentagrams, errtels and elemental capsules all carry one; a character’s element is whatever pentagram is equipped. |
| Strength circle | Fire → Darkness → Wind → Earth → Water → Fire — each element deals bonus elemental damage to the next one in the chain and reduced damage to the one before it. Fire beats Darkness but loses to Water; Water beats Fire but loses to Earth, and so on. |

Elemental Damage Multipliers
The exact final-damage multiplier by attacker element (rows) against target element (columns), as configured in the server’s character formula file. PvM values are what you feel while hunting; the PvP table is deliberately inflated so that elemental damage stays relevant against players’ huge defense. “None” is a target without a pentagram.

Green = the element you counter, red = the element that counters you. Same-element hits sit in the middle. Practical rule: build the element that counters what you fight most, and keep a second pentagram of another element in the inventory for Arca War match-ups.
All Pentagrams
Every pentagram item on the server, grouped by grade. Level is the drop level; ATK/DEF are the base physical values the item adds, elemental ATK/DEF are its contribution to the elemental pools before errtels. Grade decides how many errtel sockets it can hold and which enhanced options it can roll. Pentagrams share seven models — a rare Kundun’s Madness Blade looks like the common Gladiator’s Dagger — so the card art shows the model, and the element is shown by the item’s glow colour in game.

Enhanced Pentagram Options
Rare and unique pentagrams come with fixed “enhanced” lines. Each line only activates when the sockets hold the errtels it asks for (type, minimum rank and sometimes minimum level) — that is why the same Antonia’s Sword can feel useless with random errtels and dominant with the right set.

Read the middle column as a shopping list: Norrwen’s Bloodstring Lyra only shows its +25% critical line once it holds a rank-3 Anger and a rank-3 Blessing errtel, and the Perfect Dodge line on unique pentagrams needs rank-3 Blessing, Integrity and Divinity errtels all at +6 or higher.
Errtels
Errtels are the gems that go into pentagram sockets. There are five types; each has a rank (1–5, which socket it can sit in and which option group it rolls) and a level (+0 to +10, which scales the option value). The Beginner errtels are the starter versions handed out with the Pentagram for Beginners; the (I) errtels are the Season 16+ high-tier line with roughly three times the values.

Every errtel option by rank
Option text exactly as the client shows it, with the value at +0 and at +10. Rank 2 always rolls one of the five element-specific lines (20% each); ranks 3 and 4 roll one of two PvP/PvM variants (50% each). Radiance is the exception — its rank 1 rolls one of six stat lines and ranks 2–5 give the proc and skill effects.

Ranks, Levels & Sockets
All elemental crafting is done at Adniel in Elbeland. Two separate ladders exist: level (+0 → +10, costs Elemental Runes) raises the value of the errtel’s existing options; rank (1 → 5, costs Spirit Powder) moves it to the next socket and re-rolls a new, stronger option group. A rank-N errtel can only be mounted in socket N, so a 4-socket pentagram needs one errtel of each rank 1–4.

Total to take one errtel from +0 to +10: 34 Elemental Runes and 3,300,000 Zen. Elemental Runes drop in the elemental maps and come out of Elemental Capsules.

Rank-up also consumes the errtel’s level progress on most versions, so the efficient order is rank first, level last. Removing an errtel from a socket is 100% safe on this configuration (the removal-rate table is set to 100% for every rank and level), so moving a finished set to a better pentagram costs only the fee.
Elemental Options on Wings
4th and 5th level wings can carry an elemental attribute — a main line of Elemental Defense Increase that scales with the wing’s +level, plus a 7.5% chance of one additional elemental line when the attribute is applied. These stack with the pentagram pools and are the main reason an Arca War character upgrades wings past +11.

In the client these items carry a Roman numeral in brackets — Brilliant Orb (I), Antonias’ Sword (I), Anger Errtel (I) — and the server files call them “1st” items. They are not a new element system: they slot into exactly the same pentagram socket and use the same five elements. What changes is that every number is bigger, the pentagrams come with built-in conditional options, and the errtels carry a set bonus that normal errtels do not have.

The pentagram jump is modest on paper — Brilliant Orb (I) is 266/216 against Lemuria’s Orb at 230/180 — but the mastery errtels more than double their base line (28/30 against 12/14), and the option rolls below are where the real gap opens.
Built-in Options on Mastery Pentagrams
A normal pentagram is a blank frame: everything it does comes from the errtels you socket. A mastery pentagram already has options printed on it — but each one is conditional. It stays greyed out until the errtels you have socketed meet the requirement next to it, which is what makes these items an end-game goal rather than a straight upgrade.

Read that carefully before you buy: Antonias’ Sword (I) only pays off on a character already running Rank 3 errtels at Level 5–6. On a fresh pentagram build the cheaper Brilliant Orb (I) gives you something at Rank 1 Level 7, which is reachable in a week of Elemental Runes.
Mastery Errtel vs Normal Errtel – Every Rank
Same rank, same option, same level — the mastery version simply rolls higher. The range shown is Level 0 to Level 10 for the main option of each rank. Rank 2 rolls one of five element-specific lines (Fire / Water / Earth / Wind / Darkness) at the same value, so only the Fire line is listed.

The headline numbers are at Rank 4 and 5. A normal Rank 5 Errtel of Anger caps at +153% elemental damage; the mastery version caps at +204%. On Integrity the Rank 5 attack success rate goes from +400 to +500, which is the difference between landing elemental hits on a defended target and not.
Mastery Errtel Set Options – Fighting Spirit & Passionate
This is the part that has no equivalent on normal errtels. Every mastery errtel rolls one of two set names when it is created, at a flat 50 / 50 chance. Socket several errtels of the same set into your pentagram and the set bonus activates — so the goal is four matching ones, not four good ones.

Fighting Spirit is the offensive set and Passionate the defensive one. Note there is no three-piece step on either — going from two to three matching errtels gives you nothing, so a 2+2 split of both sets is strictly better than 3+1. Full four-piece Fighting Spirit is +60 maximum attack power and +100 elemental damage on top of whatever the individual errtels roll.
Levelling a Mastery Errtel
Mastery errtels level with Elemental Runes at Adniel, the same NPC as normal errtels, but on a separate and much steeper table — 55 runes to reach Level 10 against 34 for a normal errtel, and roughly ten times the Zen.

Rank upgrades are unchanged — a mastery errtel goes up in rank on the same Errtel Rank Up mix, and the rank it reaches still decides which pentagram socket it can sit in (Rank 2 → socket 2, Rank 3 → socket 3, and so on). See Ranks, Levels & Sockets above.
How to Get Mastery Pentagrams and Errtels
There is no Chaos Machine recipe for them — you cannot upgrade a normal Lemuria’s Orb into a Brilliant Orb (I). On the Season 21 configuration these are the routes:

Worth it? For pure PvM, a normal Rank 4–5 errtel setup on a Grade 2 pentagram already clears content, and mastery gear is a luxury. For Arca War and pentagram PvP, where physical damage is switched off and only elemental damage lands, the mastery tier is close to mandatory at the top — the +51% elemental damage gap at Rank 5 decides fights on its own.

What is a pentagram in MU Online?
An item for the dedicated pentagram slot that gives your character an element (Fire, Water, Earth, Wind or Darkness), elemental attack and defense, and 2 to 4 sockets for errtels. Elemental damage is calculated separately from normal damage and ignores regular defense.
Which element is strongest?
