What an Elite Zone Is

From Season 15 onward every new hunting ground shipped with a second, harder version of itself: an elite zone. Same map, same monster names, but each creature is replaced by an (Elite) variant with its own stat block and — the part that matters — its own drop table.

Elite zones are not a separate map you warp to. They are a gated area on the existing map, and the reason to go is that the elite monsters drop the mastery weapon lines that the normal monsters on that map never will.

Every Elite Zone on This Server

11 maps carry an elite zone, holding 29 elite monsters between them. This is what each one drops:

MapLevelElite monstersGear line droppedZen per kill
Red Smoke Icarus490–5152Wings of17,000
Abyss Of Atlas 3445–5302Jewel of20,000
Arenil Temple520–5303Silver Heart170,000
Scorched Canyon470–5503Jewel of20,000
Ashy Aida550–5601Silver Heart17,000
Kanturu Undergrounds615–6203Brilliant Sword17,000

Bloody Tarkan800–8103Apocalypse Sword
Tormenta Island850–8603Apocalypse Sword
Twisted Karutan900–9103Lightning Sword
Raklion of Oblivion1100–12103

Read that column on the right as a shopping list. If you need Manticore weapons you go to Blaze Kethotum; Apocalypse comes from Bloody Tarkan and Tormenta Island; Silver Heart from Arenil Temple and Ashy Aida. The elite zone is the source, not the normal map.

Elite vs Normal — the Actual Difference

The word “elite” suggests a huge stat jump. The server files say otherwise: for most zones the elite is a modest step up, and in a few cases it is genuinely weaker in health than its normal counterpart.

MapMonsterLevelHealthDamageDefence
Abyss Of Atlas 3Great Bahamut of Abyss445 → 500×0.41×1.07×0.62
Abyss Of Atlas 3Lizard King of Abyss460 → 530×0.46×0.74×0.64

Blaze KethotumCrimson Minos650 → 660×1.02×1.02×1.04

Scorched Canyon is the outlier that proves the rule — its elites hit for up to twice the damage of the normal versions. Arenil Temple and Blaze Kethotum, by contrast, run within a few percent of their normal monsters. You are not being asked to out-gear a huge stat wall; you are being asked to reach the zone at all.

What the Bags Actually Contain

Each elite has its own item bag file. Three things come out of a kill:

  • Zen — from nothing up to 170,000 per kill depending on the zone.
  • A coin reward — the AddCoin entry, between 40 and 50 per kill.
  • One item roll from that elite’s pool.

Across the 39 elite bags there are only 10 distinct item pools — elites on the same map, and often across neighbouring maps, share one. The pools are:

PoolElites using it
Brilliant Sword line — Brilliant Sword, Brilliant Magic Sword, Brilliant Claws…6
Apocalypse Sword line — Apocalypse Sword, Apocalypse Magic Sword, Apocalypse Claws…6
Silver Heart line — Silver Heart Sword, Silver Heart Magic Sword, Silver Heart Claw…5
Temple Guard line — Temple Guard Knight Helmet, Temple Guard Wizard Helmet, Temple Guard Elf Helmet…5
Jewel of line — Jewel of Bless, Jewel of Soul, Jewel of Life…3
Manticore Sword line — Manticore Sword, Manticore Magic Sword, Manticore Claw…3
Lightning Sword line — Lightning Sword, Lightning Magic Sword, Lightning Claws…3
Imperial Knight line — Imperial Knight Helm, Imperial Wizard Helm, Imperial Elf Helm…3
Imperial Sword line — Imperial Sword, Imperial Magic Sword, Imperial Claw…3
Wings of line — Wings of Storm, Wings of Eternal, Wings of Illusion…2

Practically: an elite zone drops every class variant of its weapon line, not just the one for your class. A Blaze Kethotum elite can roll a Manticore Sword, Scepter, Rune Mace, Lance or Magic Gun. So the zone is worth farming for a guild even when only one member needs that tier.

Which Zone for Which Level

The zones form a clean ladder. Take the one just above your current gear tier:

Farming Elite Zones

  • Go for the line, not the level. The stat gap is small; the drop table is the entire reason the zone exists.
  • Bring a party. Every bag rolls per kill, and the pools cover all classes, so nothing is wasted on a mixed group.
  • Check the zen column. Arenil Temple pays 170,000 zen per elite — ten times what most zones give, and by far the best zen-per-kill on the list.
  • The late zones pay almost no zen. Bloody Tarkan onward drop 1 zen per kill; you are farming those purely for the gear line and the coin.
  • Clear the normal map first. Elite zones sit inside maps you already need to reach, so the level requirement is the real gate.

Elite Zones FAQ

How many elite zones are there in MU Online?

On this Season 21 server there are 11 maps with an elite zone, containing 29 elite monsters in total.

Are elite monsters much stronger than normal ones?

Less than the name suggests. Most elites sit within 10 per cent of their normal counterpart on health and defence. Scorched Canyon is the exception, where elites hit for roughly twice the damage.

What do elite monsters drop?

Zen, a coin reward, and one roll from that elite’s item pool. The pools are mastery weapon lines — Silver Heart, Brilliant, Manticore, Apocalypse, Lightning and so on — covering every class variant of that weapon.

Which elite zone drops Manticore weapons?

Blaze Kethotum. Apocalypse comes from Bloody Tarkan and Tormenta Island, Silver Heart from Arenil Temple and Ashy Aida, Brilliant from Kanturu Undergrounds.

Which elite zone gives the most zen?

Arenil Temple at 170,000 zen per elite kill, roughly ten times the typical elite zone.

Do I need a party for elite zones?

Not required, but recommended. Item pools contain every class variant of a weapon line, so a mixed party wastes nothing.
